Aditya Bhandari

Aditya assists the investment management team by handling data structuring, cleaning, and data science tasks for building quantitative models. In addition, he also helps in developing prudent strategies for data acquisition and statistical methods in order to build reliable forecasting models for accurate predictions. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in business analytics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Previously, Aditya worked as a data analyst with Ecolibrium Energy, helping companies in various industry verticals to intelligently manage their electrical assets and energy usage. While at Ecolibrium, Aditya developed two patent-pending methods of online conditional monitoring of electrical machines using predictive maintenance algorithms. Aditya holds a bachelor’s degree in information and communication technology from Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.

Brad Lookabaugh </h1> <h3>VP, Portfolio Management</h3>

Brad is responsible for working with research and operations to synthesize and implement Unison’s investment strategy and oversee Unison’s proprietary investment decision engine. Brad previously worked for Accenture where he managed M&A integration as well as acting as a product test lead. Brad also has experience in complex securities’ analysis with Stout Risius Ross and in biomedical research with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

Brad has a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University and a Master of Financial Engineering from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley.

Brodie Gay </h1> <h3>VP, Research</h3>

Brodie Gay

VP, Research

Brodie applies machine learning, statistics and quantitative methods in financial derivatives pricing to forecast and price residential real estate derivatives. In addition, he manages the quantitative research and portfolio optimization strategy, leveraging mass property level transaction databases and large-scale parallel processing clusters. Prior to Unison, Brodie worked as a Quantitative Strategist for the Financial Institutions Group at Goldman Sachs in New York City.

Brodie received his Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) and Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics from UC Berkeley. He lectures a summer course on Quantitative Methods in Derivatives Pricing and a Machine Learning workshop at UC Berkeley for students in the MFE program.

Erica conducts analysis of partners and properties for Unison Investment Management. She has previous experience in Commercial Real Estate Investments as an Investment Analyst at AEW Capital Management’s European branch located in Milan, Italy, which is now part of the real estate asset management platform of Natixis Investment Managers. Previously, she gained investment analysis experience with HSBC Global Asset Management. Erica earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics, Management and Finance from Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.

Harrison analyzes properties and partners to identify investment opportunities. Prior to joining Unison, he was a key member of an Oregon-based aquaculture startup. During his undergraduate studies, Harrison worked with WCM Investment Management as a part of their Equity Research team, as well as the Student Managed Investment Fund, where he focused on equity research and portfolio strategy. Harrison holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics from University of California, Irvine.

Jonathan Schwerin </h1> <h3>Investment Analyst</h3>

Jonathan analyzes properties and partners to ensure compliance with investor guidelines in addition to analyzing the risk/reward profile of investments. Prior to Unison, Jonathan was on the Asset Management team at Essex Property Trust, one of the largest public multi-family REIT’s. While at Essex he analyzed financial and operations data for the entire portfolio and assisted in preparing quarterly earnings call commentary. Prior to Essex and business school, Jonathan worked for Uniplan Investment Counsel as an Equity Analyst & Securities Trader on a micro-cap and REIT portfolio. Jonathan earned his M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a focus in Real Estate and his B.S. in Finance from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jonathan is a CFA Charterholder.

Liuwei Zhao </h1> <h3>Investment Analyst</h3>

Liuwei conducts analysis of partners and properties to evaluate the potential risk and return for Unison IM’s homeownership investments. Prior to Unison, Liuwei was a Senior Financial Analyst at AtSite Inc. where she specialized in Corporate Finance, utilization analysis and FP&A. Prior to AtSite, Liuwei worked for an international wholesale company on E-Commerce, Business Strategy analysis and Supply chain management. Liuwei holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Nankai University, as well as a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Maryland. She is currently working towards a CFA designation.

Ryoma analyzes properties and partners to identify investment opportunities that adhere to Unison’s investment guidelines. Prior to joining Unison, Ryoma conducted financial analysis and performed sales forecasting at Hypland Clothing in Los Angeles. He holds  a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Denver. He is currently working towards a CFA designation, and plans to attend graduate school in the future.

Sam manages the Investment Analysis team to ensure each property invested adheres to Unison’s investment guidelines while offering attractive risk/reward. Prior to joining Unison, Sam completed a management associate rotation program with Invesco Hong Kong and an internship with Green Street Advisors. Prior to attending business school, he served as valuation and risk analytics specialist with PAAMCO, a fund of hedge funds specializing in emerging managers. Sam has ten years of experience investing in real estate securities. He is an occasional writer on Seeking Alpha, where he focuses on REITs and other income securities. Sam earned his MBA in Finance and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from UCLA. Sam is a CFA charterholder and a CPA.

Shujun analyzes properties and partners to identify opportunities and risks for Unison IM’s Homeownership investments. Prior to joining Unison, Shujun worked as a data management assistant at the World Bank. Shujun gained economic analysis experience with the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) as a research consultant. Previously, she gained monitoring and evaluation experience with the United Nations Development Programme. Shujun holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with a concentration in Economic and Financial Policy from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Zhejiang University, China with a minor from the Morningside Cultural China Scholars Program led by Pro. Tu Weiming at Harvard-Yenching Institute.

Tilek performs analysis on properties and applicants to assess the growth potential and credit risk of Unison IM’s homeownership investments. Prior to Unison, Tilek was an underwriting analyst at Funding Circle where he analyzed small business creditworthiness. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from San Francisco State University and a Master of Science in Financial Analysis from the University of San Francisco.

Quantitative Strategist

Winfield employs advanced quantitative finance knowledge and data science skills in investment research and portfolio management. His role involves option valuation, risk modeling, and portfolio optimization activities. He provides analytical firepower, leads research projects and develops next-generation technology to support the investment decision-making process. Before joining Unison, Winfield worked on portfolio analytics and execution research at FORT L.P., a quantitative hedge fund based in Washington, D.C. Prior to that, he worked at Micron Technology where he led global process optimization projects by leveraging and analyzing mass production data using statistical and machine learning techniques.

Winfield received a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honors from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and a Master of Financial Engineering from the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley.
